Six Tips for Building Confident, Eager Readers

Six Tips for Building Confident, Eager Readers Reading is the foundation for all learning and essential for school success. As children progress through school, its important to continue to build their reading abilities. Reading confidence comes with continued practice, says CEO and Co-Founder Eileen Huntington of Huntington Learning Center. The more children read, the better they become at it and the more they enjoy it. How can parents help build their children into confident, eager readers? Huntington offers these six tips: Work on vocabulary. Nothing will frustrate a child while reading more than encountering lots of unfamiliar and difficult words. Request vocabulary lists from your childs teacher if they dont come home from school already and work with your child every night on reviewing those words. When reading, encourage your child to keep a dictionary nearby to look up unknown words. If your child reads on an iPad or e-reader (such as Amazons Kindle or Barnes and Nobles Nook), the dictionary function is a great way to quickly look up words (and its easy to get right back to the page). Focus on the building blocks. At a very early age, children learn phonemic awarenessthat words are composed of different sounds, which form words and other soundsand phonicsletter sounds, the relationship between letters and sounds, and decoding words. But as they move into more challenging texts, fluency and comprehension become the focus. You can help by continuing to read aloud with your children and encouraging your child to do the following while reading: think through the plot and structure of a story, pause to confirm understanding (and ask questions/search for answers) and discuss ideas. Make daily time for reading. Its worth repeating: practice makes improvement when it comes to reading. If your child isnt required to read for school, still make time for it. Reading before bedtime is a good part of a daily routine. Remember to make it an enjoyable activity as well rather than a have to that your child feels forced to do. Make a plate of cookies, get out the blankets and read as a family. Show children how its relevant. Youve succeeded if you get your child to think of reading as a fun pastime, but its also important to show your child why reading is useful and important. One of the best ways to do this is to help point out connections between reading and everyday life. If your child is interested in a certain subject, go to the library or online to look for articles and books on that topic. Encourage goal setting. Goal setting is valuable because it gives children something to work toward and can serve as a motivator. Think about fun ways you can encourage the reading habit by setting goals. Maybe you plan an ice cream outing to talk about every new book your child finishes. Maybe you read a book together and set page goals for each week, then talk about what youve read at the dinner table. Find ways to use the goal-setting process to inspire your child and fuel his or her interest in reaching reading milestones. Foster those curiosities. Reading is a gateway to exploration. Whenever your child shows interest in a new topic, look together for reading material on the subjectwhether thats a book, article, magazine or blog post. When your child embraces reading, there are endless opportunities to learn and explore. Make sure to help your child open his or her mind to those possibilities. Reading is so important for school and life. If you know your child is struggling with reading and youre not sure how to help, call Huntington. We will uncover the root of the problem and develop a customized learning program that will help your child strengthen those reading skills, regain his or her confidence and learn to enjoy reading. What is the difference between Ordinary, Normal and Usual ??

What is the difference between Ordinary, Normal and Usual ?? Here you will learn the difference between ordinary, normal and usual.Common vs usual vs ordinary.Usual vs normal. And how to use these words correctly in English. Ordinary, Normal and Usual - What is the difference? Hi there Im Harry and welcome to  English in a minute.Today,  I want to talk to  you about three words that my students  often get confused but the words are  similar but they have different uses and  those words are COMMON, USUAL and ORDINARY.If you look it up in the dictionary, youll find synonyms for each of them  are the same.  So when you look up common, youll see synonyms usual and ordinary. When you look up ordinary,  you see that its  synonyms are usual and common  also. There are similarities there but there  are certain differences.  Lets take  them one by one.Lets start with the  word COMMON.  Common is something that is  used by everybody.  It can be  something that is public.  Like the park  is a common place for everybody to use  because its open for everybody.  Its not  a membership,  you dont have to pay to  get into it so its common.  Or its  accessible by the public.  Something that is common is something that is normal. Something that is the normal thing to do.Well, sure its common for everybody to use the English language so this is why people are learning English because its the common language spoken throughout the world.  When Im  teaching my students English,  I like them  to use common ordinary everyday English. For example,  when were  greeting people  hi or hello,  theyre  common words we use to address people. Were not saying  Good morning, sir that would be uncommon or quite unusual  to how to express yourself.  Unless youre talking to somebody in some business capacity. Or its much more formal like a lord or a lady. So common is something that you do every day. Difference between Ordinary and Usual If you look at British history, for example,  you have two houses in the  Houses of Parliament. You have the House  of Lords which is the upper house. And you have the lower level which is the House of  Commons for the common people.  So as in  history the House of Lords represented  the elite and the House of Commons was  as I said the lower level which  represented the common or ordinary  people.  And thats how they looked on  people the difference between the high  and the low.  So this is another  definition of common. And the opposite of  common is uncommon.  Something that is  different or something that is unusual. If we look at the word  USUAL, another  word for that would be NORMAL.It’s  usual  for you to do something  that you do every day.You get up and you clean your teeth  and you have your breakfast. You go to  work.  Thats your usual event. What is a  normal or usual week for you?Every day  of the week I teach my English lessons. For you it might be to go to university. For your friend it might be to go to  their office or it might be usual for  them to go to the gym first thing in the  morning or last thing in the evening. These are things that we do every day as  a sort of a habit. Something that is  established as part of our routine. So it’s  usual for you to have your dinner at  7:00 in the evening.  It’s usual for you to  visit your family at the weekend, if  you  dont live at home.  It’s usual for you to  walk the dog before you go to the office  or university or before you go to bed in  the evening.  So usual and everyday  habit and everyday event. And if we look  at the wor d ORDINARY.  Again,  as I said  earlier,  the synonyms for this are  USUAL and COMMON.So ordinary is  something that happens every day.  Its a  normal activity.  Its a normal event.  Its  not so unusual. Somebody can say:I  have a very ordinary life,  nothing  exciting happens to me.So ordinary is  something just the usual things:  I go to  work,  I come home,  I look after the kids,  I  put them to bed,  I have a beer on a  Friday or at  the weekend with my friends.Just an ordinary everyday life.  Nothing changes. And when something is  unusual,  we can say its out of the  ordinary.  Meaning its different than  what I normally do.So it can be  extraordinary. Meaning really really  different. So you have extraordinary   out of the ordinary, to describe  things that you dont normally  do.  And then ordinary everyday  things.Remember to subscribe to my YouTube channel Learn English with Harry and join me on www.englishlessonviaskype.comAnd dont forget if you  look down below youll see the  subscription to our wonderful courses on  English grammar and the most recent one  about common mistakes made in English  you can buy them today and youll get up  to speed with your English very very  quickly.  Join me again soon.

What Are French Tutor Jobs?

What Are French Tutor Jobs? Many people wonder what French tutor jobs are all about. Perhaps you are wondering how to earn money teaching the language, how much it is worth to learn the language and whether or not it's worth it for your kids. The truth is, all of these questions will be answered by your teacher on a regular basis. There are many different places to look for jobs in France, so you can research online or talk to a friend who is already a teacher to find the best opportunities for you. For a lot of people, the best way to find the right opportunity is to ask a French student who they think is going to be the best teacher for them. Of course, this is easier said than done, but many students are willing to help you out because they know the chances of you failing at this language are very high.As for the search for French tutor jobs, there are many ways to go about it. If you are interested in starting a business with the passion for teaching, there are many businesses offe ring French tutor services, just look them up on line and check out their site to see if there are any jobs in your area. For those that don't speak French, there are many language schools that offer courses to learn the language. However, if you're interested in the options of the job, you'll have to decide what type of French tutor you want to be. With most jobs, you would be responsible for making sure your students reach their goals and are fluent in the language. Of course, there are some jobs where you can teach them the basics of the language, but you won't be teaching them about grammar or vocabulary.Learning a foreign language doesn't have to be difficult. It does take hard work and dedication, but the rewards are well worth it. That way, you will know exactly what you need to do to help your students maximize their learning experi ences during this challenging process.Once you have picked out the tests that you will be using, you will want to know which test is the best to use on a daily basis. Obviously, you need to make sure that the test is going to test all of the skills that you need it to test. This means that it is important to use a test that tests everything that your students need to know in order to learn math. When you are doing your homework, you will find that the common core will provide you with numerous options that you will need to consider before making your choice.
